Entering via an ornate gatehouse that provides access through a solid and secure front wall the visitor winds their way to a beautiful granite porch upon which sits a massive timber pivot front door. This is the entrance to the main mid level where all the living areas reside. The first room that leads from the entry is a stunning bookshelf clad library with a soaring 2 storey ceiling and where clever design provides views out over parklands to the river beyond. On the other side of the entrance hall is access to the garage and then an ornately fitted out office which has it’s own bathroom that is also utilised as the outdoor pool bath and dressing room.
Next stop is the beautiful timber clad lift doors on one side and an exquisite powder room on the other, past the curved stairwell with it’s 3 storey glass wall then on via a barrel vaulted ceiling and double doors, past the purpose built two level home theatre and out into the main open plan rear living area. This is the heart of the home, boasting a comfortable living room with a striking marble clad fireplace, a sunken curved bar that also opens out to the external Alfresco & pool areas, large dining room, an upholstered curved window seat breakfast nook and one of the biggest and best equipped kitchens ever built. All these rooms enjoy uninterrupted views out over the rear lap pool and on to yacht clubs that adorn the sweeping river bends.
Either a stroll back down the curved staircase, from where more uninterrupted river views are observed, or a quick decent in the lift will disembark you in the undercroft level. This entire section of the house had to be carved out of solid rock and was an excavation of mammoth proportions. If the mid level was the heart of t he home, this level is the soul. A gym, bathroom sauna, steam room & wine cellar share the back area while a billiard room, dance floor (with juke box of course) magnificent bar & sitting room share the front. All these underground rooms are naturally lit by the clever positioning of garden light courts.
Back in the lift is the quickest way to the top floor where all the accommodation is. A guest room with it’s own private en suite & balcony sits at the front with another bedroom and en suite abutting it behind. The rear river side is taken up with the master suite and what a suite it is. Comprising of a massive en suite with a huge built in marble clad spa, enormous his and hers dressing rooms, and a superb bedroom that flows into an equally impressive sitting room that in turn opens onto a private balcony.
All in all this one of the largest and most intricate projects Brian Burke Homes has taken on. It was challenging and enjoyable to do and it now provides a source of pride to look back on.
